Why are images on certain pages suddenly not showing up?

  • Unknown's avatar

Images are not showing up on certain pages in my non-premium wordpress blog. I have several pages and a few of them are showing the images just fine, but most pages are only showing a blue link and when I click the links, it goes to a black screen. This has just happened either today or within the last couple days.
I have tried refresh, clearing cookies & cashe, tried another browser, even tried another computer……same thing. The photos are all uploaded from my computer. If I click to edit the page, the photos show up in the edit area. The photos also show up fine in the posts and in the media library. They are just not showing on several of my pages. Please help. My blog URL is gingersgems.wordpress.com

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Please give us the URL of a post where images are missing. Also, have you changed the name of the blog recently?

apphiaone, look in the Support documents for the difference between .org and .com. There’s a link right on the front page.

Here is one of the pages http://gingersgems.wordpress.com/creation-example-displays/
I have not changed anything lately other than adding a new post and uploading images as I do on a regular basis.
At the moment, I’m building new galleries on these pages that won’t display…..going to take me all day to do it, but it is the only way I have found to fix the problem. If I add a new gallery and delete the old one, then it seems to work fine. Not sure why galleries on certain pages would have stopped working. Just hope this doesn’t happen again.

Finished updating my galleries. It took all day. I then decided to look at my other blog and sure enough, the same thing has happened there. I haven’t touched that blog for months and months, so the problem was not caused by me. There must be something going on with WordPress or something they have changed. I’m going to have to re-do all these galleries, too. I probably won’t get to it until tomorrow, so if you want to take a look at one of them, here is a link http://gingers1genealogy1italy.wordpress.com/document-gallery/
I sure wish someone had an answer to all this…..and an easy fix in case it ever happens again.

    PROBLEM SOLVED
Okay, I found the problem and it was a quick fix. The galleries somehow got changed to “link to media file” instead of “link to attachment page”. No idea how this happened, but changing it back fixed the problem. Wish I had known this before I re-created all those galleries today.
If anyone else has this happen, just go to your edit area and click the “pencil” icon to edit your gallery. Then on the upper right, be sure the Link To menu is changed to “attachment page”.

Interesting, thanks for the report. I’ll flag this for staff to look into, as you were not the only person reporting image issues.

Thanks. It’s interesting that it didn’t happen to all my galleries, just most of them. I had two within the same blog, but different pages, that were just fine.

I have experienced a similar problem. The behavior is consistent and repeatable.

If the gallery is set to link to the media file, then any images with the caption set do not appear in on the page: instead of the image a textual hyperlink to the media file is displayed.

In the situation where some images in the gallery have captions and others don’t, then images without a caption display normally and images without a caption exhibit the erroneous behaviour.

Sorry, error in the final paragraph. I should have written:

Thanks everyone! We’re aware of the issue and working on a fix. I’ll keep this thread updated.
