Why are my categories not getting added to posts?

For one of my blogs, I have recently been unable to add categories to my posts. I use categories to separate my writing into years, and have been able to since I first created my blog. I’m not sure what changed, but I’ve tried several times to add “2014” to my new posts and it continues to not save.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi Sara,
If you log in to your account, there’s a Category named “2014”
https://thirsted.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit-tags.php?taxonomy=category
If you write a new post or edit an existing post, you can also see “2014” in the Category section on the Add New or Edit Post screen.

Hi Jan,
This is what I’ve been doing, but when I click “save” 2014 disappears from the categories tab. I’ve tried clicking 2014 and typing 2014, but the same thing happens every time.

When you edit or write a new post and add the Category “2014” to this post, this Category, as well as the other selected Categories, get bumped up the list. All your checked Categories are moved up the list in the Categories section. You won’t see it right below “2013” anymore, but you’ll see it right above “Uncategorized”.
I also tried replicating the issue and seems to be working fine. If this doesn’t work, would it be possible to send me a screenshot of this issue you’re having?

Hi Jan,
Weird! When I tried editing the tags before, I was given the ‘new’ WordPress post layout — that’s when the category tag would disappear. Now it’s in the old post model, and works.
