Why are my Facebook and Twitter 'follow' widgets not working

People are informing me that they have followed me on Twitter or Facebook but I have not seen the updated number or the people concerned show up in my follower lists on neither network. I have tried it myself using another account and it acts as though you are added, but once you refresh the page you are no longer following the person.
Please let me know what the solution is.

Hi Diana – For your Twitter widget, when I click Follow, I get the pop-up and I have to click Follow there again:

For the Facebook Like Box widget, that’s not a follow button; that’s a Like button for readers to like your Facebook page. I tried it out, and that worked as well.
Can you provide a bit more detail about how it worked when you tried it with your test account? What did you see that was different from what I have described? A screenshot might be helpful. Here are instructions for how to make a screenshot: http://en.support.wordpress.com/make-a-screenshot/
You can upload it to your blog’s Media Library and I can look at it there.

Agreed. You are indeed following me on Twitter but you are currently not recorded as liking my Facebook page, so the Facebook widget is not working.

Hi Diana – I liked it and unliked it. But it worked, my Gravatar showed up in your Like box and it was recorded in my timeline.

Maybe it does work in that sense but you are still not listed as liking my page. So if 100 people like my page from my blog, they may receive updates but I will have no clue as to who they are.
I appreciate your help though, but there is a definate problem with the Facebook widget.

Yes, I see you in the screenshot but on my end you are still not listed as liking my page.

Hi Diana – Hmm. When I liked your page, the total like count on your page went up from 42 to 43 and it registered on my own Facebook page, so I’m not sure why Facebook didn’t show my avatar on your own page’s like list. Could you make a screenshot of what that looks like for you and upload it to your Media Library so I can take a look?

Hi Diana – Thanks for the screenshot. Hmm, I see that my like does not appear there. However, this is on Facebook’s end, and isn’t really something we can troubleshoot. The widget is working since when I like your page, it registers on Facebook for me and in the widget, and it ups your count by one. I don’t know why Facebook is not updating your like list.
