why are my followers being notified of a password protected post

  So I am participating in your writing 101 but I don’t want the public to see the assignments (at least not all of them) so I published a post as password protected but then my followers got notified of it.. not a good thing. How can I stop that from happening?

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  Hello there!

  Your followers will receive notification of all your publicized posts, whether or not they are password protected.

  If you don’t want them to receive notification (and if the posts are really for YOU, rather than the public), you should make the posts Private.

  Or…

  If you’d like only SOME people to have access to your assignments, you might create a password protected page instead or a post:

  https://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/page-visibility/

  New and updated pages are not sent as notifications to your followers. You can manually email the link to anyone who you want to read the assignment, and give them the password.
