Why are my images sometimes full-size and sometimes thumbnails?
-
Many of my posts have embedded images. When I view the posts individually, sometimes these display as thumbnails and sometimes they’re full-size. Sometimes I can view a post and see that the images are full-size, then come back a few minutes later and find that they’ve been reduced to thumbnails! It’s an art blog, so I’d prefer that they be full-size, but the most annoying thing is the inconsistency.
Is there a setting I can change to stop this from switching back and forth? The theme I’m using is Visual.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

That’s extremely odd behavior for images. I’ll tag this thread for Staff assistance. Please subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and please be patient while waiting.

@ greenchromeoxide – That does sound strange. I took a look at several posts on your site, and all of the images displayed full-size. Can you provide a link to one of the posts where you see this happening?
It would also help if you could provide a screenshot of what you see. You can upload screenshots to your Media Library under Media > Add New in your dashboard, or you can use an online service such as Snaggy.
That information will really help. I’ll be happy to investigate this further for you!

Okay, there’s a screenshot of the “Little Fish Lake” post in my Media Library. Is that all you need me to do?
I’m using Firefox–the latest version, I think.
-
Thanks, that screenshot was what I needed. I see what you mean about the thumbnails, but unfortunately I wasn’t able to reproduce the issue in Firefox (or other browsers) on my end.
If you use any Firefox add-ons, can you try disabling them or using Firefox safe mode to view your site? That will help us find out if an add-on is causing this problem.
Also, would you be willing to look at the site in another browser to see if the same thing happens there? You can download the latest version of popular browsers here: http://browsehappy.com/
Let me know how that goes for you. Thanks!

I tried with Internet Explorer a couple of times and the images were always full-sized. In Firefox safe mode it seems to work fine, too.
I’m not using very many add-ons. Firefox’s appearance is set to the default theme, and I’m not using any special toolbars. Java and Flash are up to date. I don’t see why the Adobe Acrobat add-on or Silverlight would have any bearing on this, or AVG SiteSafety. Windows Live Photo Gallery?
Would any of those be causing this?

I’m not sure which add-on would cause this problem, but since the images look fine in Firefox safe mode, one of the add-ons is probably the culprit.
I recommend that you disable your add-ons one at a time and check your website each time, to see which of them has an effect on the website. That will be the most reliable way to identify which add-on is interfering. You can find instructions for disabling and removing add-ons here:
Please let me know how that goes for you!

Sorry to take so long to reply! Life got really busy for a while there…
The first add-on I disabled was QuickTime and it looks like that was the culprit.
-
Thanks for letting me know! I’m glad you were able to find the culprit, and hopefully this will help other users who run into the same issue. :)

I have a picture problem that is not excactly like greenchromoxide
s, but still .. In my main blog, the pictures are very small in the posts, too small in my opinion. I have a test blog called Krushund.wordpress.com and there the same picture look like I want them. I open both in Firefox so I sont think add-ons can be the issue here?
Any idea?

@jannekb-Can you point to a specific post or page where you see this happening and if possible the corresponding post on krushund?
-
It is in all of them! Here: http://jannebless.com/2013/08/29/det-gar-opp-og-ned-her-i-verden/
Det pictures should fill the space, that`s what I want.
Here they look different:

Thanks. Janne -
Interesting, both sites using Ideation and Intent, but the first has captions on the images and the second doesn’t. Did you insert the image in both sites at “full size”?
Here’s an example from one of my demo sites where you can see there is a difference in image size when a caption is used, even when using the “full size” option. http://agallerydemo.wordpress.com/2011/03/01/hello-world/ The caption is what makes the difference.
-
Yes, I inserted the image full size in both sites. I have tested this now and it looks like you are right! When I use caption, the image becomes smaller. When I remove it, the becomes big or full size. So I have to chose then – caption or size?
I was not aware of this at all. Thank you very much for your help!

You are welcome, but there is another choice. Try using the Gallery feature to insert your photos rather than one-by-one. You can learn more about this feature here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/images/gallery/
