Why are my page links disappearing?

Page links are disappearing and I have to update pages to make them come back “online,” so to speak. This is happening with a lot of my pages, but not all. I find that I have to update all the pages within a group to make sure the links work again. They worked before, so it’s not a link issue. The main problem is the amount of pages I have and how many times I’ve had to do this.

Are you referring to the page links in your navigation bar?
It looks like you already have a menu setup for this. Are they disappearing from both the blog’s display and the menu content at Appearance -> Menus?

No, not from the top menu. I mean I click on a link and the page is not there. I go to my dashboard, update the page, and when I try it again it works. For example: since most of my pages are actually chapters of stories, I include a link for the next chapter at the bottom of each page. Those links don’t work. On the right hand side of my home page I have all the pages listed (they look like stories and their respective chapters)… you can click on those and they’re not working. The thing is, once I update the page from the dashboard, the link works again. I have a story that is 68 chapters (each one occupying a page) long, and I hesitate to look through and see which ones aren’t working. It’s time-consuming to update 68 separate pages… Since WordPress has been doing updates, could that have something to do with it? Anyway, I’ve been updating some pages and fixing them, and not all of them have disappeared to begin with. You might still be able to see what I’m talking about by accessing (or trying to) chapters for the story Alive After Dark. From my home page you will find all the links on the right hand side. Thans for your help!

I checked the first 25 links under “Alive After Dark” in the list of links in the right sidebar starting with the “Chapter 1 – Bad Things” link and they all worked for me.
Could you try clicking through some of them now and let me know a specific example of one that isn’t working for you?

I picked chapter 66 at random and I got the error message. For a moment there I thought this would be like when I take the car to the mechanic for a noise and the noise stops as soon as I get there… LOL

Hah! I guess I should have kept clicking! Okay, I see it now. Earlier, you said, “The thing is, once I update the page from the dashboard, the link works again.” Could you tell me exactly what you’re updating to get the links working again?
I will also look into this problem from our side a bit more. Based on what I can see so far, it looks to me like it has something to do with the special characters you are putting in the post titles (like em dashes maybe?). For the chapter that’s giving me trouble I go into the dashboard, click on edit, and click on update. That’s really all it takes and the chapter is up again. I don’t change anything… I haven’t tried it with the quick edit option.
