Why are my photos blurry?

Whenever I go to insert a photo into a post it comes up very tiny. But once I enlarge it to a decent size it gets really blurry. Is there anything I can do to fix this, or it that just how wordpress is set up? Or does it maybe have to do with my theme?

It looks like some interesting stuff is going on here:
It’s setting it to be small (a couple ways), and then upsizing again. See how it says “?w=300&h=200″ after the image url? And then width=”300″ height=”200”?
I’m not familiar with the theme, but when you insert media are you selecting “Full Size” or “Large” under the attachment display settings?
I do feel like there might be something weird going on with the theme though, since when I resize the window smaller they get completely distorted. What theme is it? Book Lite? I’m not seeing the same issue on their deme ( http://booklitedemo.wordpress.com/ )

Yeah, I just gave it a test, if you put in the large or fullsize image Book Lite should automatically handle the sizing. Hopefully that helps.

Well I tried making changes to the CSS but it won’t save. It tells me it’s saving, but it never actually does.
I’m also just really horrible with computers, so figuring out how to make those changes is really confusing – I’m not even sure I’m doing anything correctly.
I’ve also never seen the choice of being able to select “full size” or “large” under the attachment display when I insert photos. -
Unless you have purchased the custom design upgrade, you cannot save any of the changes you make. You don’t need that anyway to insert images the size you want.

Note #7 where it says, “Size.” You have to scroll down to see the bottom part of that picture, but it allows you to choose full or large sized images.

One thing to note is that you are uploading pictures which are only 300px wide. When you enlarge them to the full width allowed in Book Lite (750px) they will of course become blurry.
There are enough dots to make a 300px wide picture, but those pixels are trying to fill a much larger area so the spaces between them are filled with “guesses” about what should be there.

1tess, I think you can save inline css in the post editor, though, right? I’ve seen a lot of people having issues with it (especially when they’ve pasted from a word doc and it adds margins to their paragraph tags or something like that.)
Totally true that you need the custom design upgrade to change the theme css, though, but I think that’s not what’s causing the issue here.
It actually looks like there is a larger file that is being downsampled with inline css and then upsampled again by the theme.
If you inspect the source or click on the image you can see that this file exists:

cool! It does look better. Did the solution I mentioned work? It seems like the inline css isn’t there anymore.
