Why are my posts disappearing?

    Wrote a long post, clicked “Update”, post simply disappeared, with no Autosave or revisions to be found.

    Repeated all this, same result, no trace of the missing post.

    Using Apple, iMac Mountain OS. Firefox browser. Haven’t used WordPress for a year, so the upgrades are new to me, but not confusing. I must be doing something wrong, but what???

    Oh no! That sounds like very bad news.
    If the post was created on the dashboard of your own blog at Dashboard > Posts > All Posts > Add New then you ought to be able to recover a lost post or page from revisions if needs be.

    I recommend:
    Always create your posts on the dashboard of your own blog at
    Dashboard > Posts > All Posts > Add New
    Always allow pages to fully load before clicking any other links.
    Use an offline blog editor so you have backups on your own computer http://en.support.wordpress.com/xml-rpc/

    This happened to me as well yesterday. Being new to wordpress I thought I was doing something wrong. I must have retyped my message at least 10 times nad each time the blog disappeared when it was supposedly published. I even used the revisions to extract the version I wanted to restore. Nothing worked. I tried again today and it worked perfectly first time.

    Suddenly my posts are not disappearing. Wish I could tell you why I was losing them, but I can’t. I click “Update” and my post updates instead of vanishing. Revisions are also showing up, which alarming was not the case with my “vanished” posts.

    Cream, Thief’s advice does look good. I had already followed most of it without success. (Yet WordPress support docs is impressive; clear and comprehensive.) For backups, I simply copied my post to a Word doc before hitting “Update”.

    Thief, which of those text editors do you recommend?
