Why are my posts not going onto the correct categories?

    I just started working with WordPress. Very new here… I started the blog, created pages, and then I saw it was important to create categories so the posts would be under each page (links at the top of my blog). But I clearly did something wrong, and can’t figure out why my posts, categorized in right place, which is just the same names (typed out) as the pages I created. Can someone please help. I am willing to scratch the one post I did, and start fresh with default settings if necessary. But how would I even do that? And what would be the step by step to do it correctly next time?

    Hi Karen, the good news is you won’t need to delete your post to fix this! It sounds like you are trying to add your blog categories to your menu which you actually can do without creating separate pages for each category.

    If you go to your Edit Menu page, you should see an option to add the categories directly to the menu:

    WordPress automatically groups each post in a particular category so they will all be listed on their own archive page when a category link is clicked either from your menu or on the post itself.

    Ok, I added them to my menus, and then that caused two of the same categories in the menu, because I guess they were already in the menu. I deleted them started over. I have tried tagging the right category (checking the box) for the post, and it won’t ever go into that category (when clicking on the link on the menu bar at top). I just want each post in the right category, as well as on the main page… Does that make sense. its probably such an easy fix, but is a major road block for me…frustrating…

    Can you give me step by step instructions? This clearly has to be broken down for me. LOL

    I deleted my “Pages”, and tried adding the checked categories to the menu (I labeled Main menu), and they still aren’t showing up in the main menu bar at the top on my homepage.
