Why are my posts not showing up in publishing date order?
-
I have the Triton-Lite Theme and some of my posts aren’t showing up in the order they are published by day. For example, a post that was published on the 15th is showing up in front of a post published on the 16th which is not in chronological order. I thought it was just the theme I was using but when I changed themes, they stayed out of order. Please help. I’ve contacted the Theme Owner but it looks to both of us like this is a problem with WordPress.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

There is no sticky posts, and I’ve made sure all the dates/times are right. Everything is right, and when the posts are published they show up in order, but as more posts are published the others get shuffled out of order.

Hi Cody,
Have you been copying/pasting your text to create your posts? This can happen sometimes when you don’t draft up your posts with the WordPress.com editor. Can you try going to Posts > All Posts, changing all your latest posts to Draft? Click on the box to the left of Title. Then, go to the Bulk Actions dropdown and select Edit. Then where it says status, set it to Draft. Click Update, and then change them back to Published using the same method. Remember that this will only do this for the posts checked on that page. Please do it for every page of posts.
Let me know if you have any questions with this!

Can you tell me what day the posts went out of order? There may be a stray div tag of some sort in that post which caused this.

January 16th and 15th posts are out of order but I don’t know when they got out of order. It’s like they were in order at first but the further they made it down the page, the more out of order they got. for instance, right now Febrauray 13, 14, and 15 are out of order. They’re showing up:
1. 14th
2. 13th
3. 15th
But I don’t know what happened or when exactly they were shuffled out of order. -
I understand that they are out of order, but it’s helpful to know when this started occurring, because there is probably a mistake in that post that caused all this. Do you have a time frame as you have hundreds of posts.
Please make sure to created your posts within the editor from here on out. If anything is copied/pasted into the editor these issues can happen.

Right, thank you. If I can’t pinpoint the time when this started happening, is there another way to pinpoint the post that screwing all this up? What should I be looking for?
-
I did a bit more searching and it may be theme-related. I have reported this to our theme developers for further review.

Howdy Cody,
Thanks for bringing this to our attention!
The Triton Lite theme uses a script called Masonry that’s designed to align your posts to a visual grid, like bricks. This means that sometimes posts appear out of order to better align to the visual grid, rather than in the order in which they were published. This is what’s currently happening on your site.
If this is a problem, I’d suggest switching to a theme that doesn’t display posts in a grid format.
I hope this helps clarify!
Cheers,

Is there any way to keep that from happening?
Not so long as you stick with your current theme.
Are you interested in seeing if there is another theme that you like the look of, that doesn’t use the grid format?
-
Not really. I love the grid format b/c we’re very content driven and want our content upfront. Is there nothing I can do in code to make the theme use date as a priority over visual looks?

Not on WordPress.com. The version of WordPress we host here doesn’t include user access to that level of code changes. If you were to move to a self-hosted site you could probably change the theme’s behavior in the code.
If you don’t want to move your site, you might also try Mixfolio
https://theme.wordpress.com/themes/mixfolio/
It’s not exactly the same, but since it forces every entry to be the same size, you shouldn’t have the out of order problem that you are experiencing with Triton lite.
