Why are my stats from search engins going crazy today?

  Earlier today my stats indicated that there were 539 search engine searches on my tag “fruit displays.” Now the count is up over 800 (I usually get about 5 hits a week on this term). Despite this huge spike, my weekly stats say that I am DOWN 15% in overall page hits this week as compared to last.

  Hi there,

  I’ve dug in to your stats a bit and all of your views are coming out of a Yahoo Image Search, which explains why you’re not getting visits, just views.

  Google has recently changed the way that their image searches work so that they don’t result in page/image hits every time an image is viewed, however Yahoo has not yet implemented such guards.

  As to why all of a sudden an image of a fruit arrangement from almost two years ago is so popular, I could not tell you. It may be that a school or culinary project on fruit arrangements is causing the increase. I can tell you however that a search for “fruit display” gives your photo as the second hit.” Well done!
