Why are my stats showing 20 – 25 more hits in total?

Why are my stats showing 20 – 25 more hits in total page hits anount? The reason I was checking is because my web tracker shows 20 -25 less hits than wordpress stats. I then counted the actual page hits on my wordpress stats page and it matches the web counter. So why would the total number of hits say a higher number yet not have those hits at all?

Can you be more specific please? In particular:
“I then counted the actual page hits on my wordpress stats page”
Counted what exactly?
Different web stats services count different things. It might be that your tracker is counting unique visitors rather than page views. Or it might roll over at a different midnight.

The total number of hits NEVER equals the total number of hits on individual posts, because a lot of people will just look at the blog as a whole, not at individual posts.

My web tracker counts page loads thats why they gave the same totals and they are on the same time. I clicked on top posts and pages then counted that list and it was about 20 less than the total page hits at bottom of stats page.

If someone comes to the main page of your blog (the home page) that is a hit, but it does not show up in the top posts and pages count. They don’t keep track of the main page in top posts and pages.
If 50 people come to your blog main page, http://blogname.wordpress.com/ , but do not click on a post title or a page, then you are going to have 50 hits, but no post or page views under “top posts and pages” because those 50 people did not visit a post or tracked page.

Ok that makes sense but my web tracker counts hits to just the blog address so the total amount at bottom of stats page has always matched. I need to check the final number when the day ended when I can but it was pretty much like that all day.
