Why are only a fraction of my livejournal posts being imported?
-
Perhaps this is because I am attempting to import two different livejournal accounts into the same WordPress blog? The first one worked just fine, but the second one will only grab 33 random posts out of the 798 that are on the journal; after that, it goes immediately to comments and grinds away at a lot more than it actually believes there are (e.g. “batch 99 out of about 1”).
798 posts is not a lot, but it’s a lot more than I want to transfer manually. Please tell me I’m not out of luck on this, because I’ve really been liking this WordPress service so far…

I have managed to work around this problem by creating a second WordPress blog, import my second lj account into that, then import that WordPress blog into my first WordPress blog. However, the original problem remains unsolved.

Hi kuroiyousei,
I see that your blog ( http://kuroiyousei.wordpress.com/ ) has 3,497 posts imported right now. If there are still posts missing, can you go to Tools -> Import -> LiveJournal, then click Continue previous import?

Thanks for your attention on this issue. I found a way to work around it to get nearly all my livejournal posts onto my WordPress blog, so I am fine :) Just be aware that the import feature never did properly work. I was trying to import two different livejournal accounts, and I kinda figure that was the problem.

Excellent! I’ll be happy to pass along your notes to our developers.
Can you let me know the details as to how you were able to import your LiveJournal posts from your two LiveJournal blogs?
How did the import not work initially?
-
The first lj account imported just fine.
The second account would only import, as I mentioned, about 33 posts out of around 800. It would grind away endlessly and never get more than just those 33 or so posts. I tried all sorts of things, such as deleting all the 33 posts that had imported and attempting to start the import over, changing the security level on all 800 posts (on the livejournal end) and trying again, and other stuff I forget… but it still just grabbed those exact same 33 — which were, incidentally, a really random scattering from among the 800.
I thought for a while that it was only able to get posts that had occurred on days when posts from the other lj account had not, but on going through some of the 33, I found that this was not the case. I was definitely stumped.
Anyway, what I eventually did was create a second WordPress blog (since shut down), import the second livejournal account’s entries into that, then import that second WordPress blog into the actual WordPress blog I wanted to use, and that seemed to work just fine. There were maybe 25 entries that didn’t successfully import, but that was quite a decent number to repost compared to 800! So I’m in a good place now.
Thanks again for your help. Let me know if there’s anything more I can tell you.

Thanks so much for replying with those additional details. I’m sorry for the inconvenience, and I commend you for taking the additional steps to complete the import. :-)
I’m glad to hear that you’re all set, and I’ll be sure to pass this along to our developers to help with future LiveJournal import troubleshooting.
Happy blogging!
