Why Are People Asked to Register
-
I’ve received notes that people are being asked to register with WordPress in order to view my site. How can I stop that from happening? My site is:
karengilleland.wordpress.comThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Dear docmartinstarringmartinclunesblog,
My understanding is that the registration is so that your friends can become followers of your blog. This allows them to receive an email every time you update your blog.

Thank you for your response. The thing is, I don’t want my readers to have to register with WordPress. I have roughly 400 followers, but many other people just check in to see my stories, etc. By having to register now, I notice my viewing numbers have gone way down. Is there a way to stop the registration requirement?

Hi @docmartinstarringmartinclunesblog, where are folks seeing this message? And what does it say exactly?
You do have a “Follow” widget in your sidebar, and can remove that if you’d like.

Hmm, you’ll notice if you access karengilleland.wordpress.com from a logged-out browser, you will see your site, so I’m guessing they have a differnet link somehow.
Which link were they trying to access, and where did they get it?

Are you saying I must have been logged into my site when I sent the note? Here is the link I sent to people:
