Why are people following this blog.
-
I have two blogs. One is a blog qua blog, that is, prose, text, stories and essays, etc. The other is only playlists for the podcast of my radio program. It’s just lists of song titles. And I keep getting these emails that people are subscribing to it. Why! What’s going on? I have more people subscribing to the playlists than actually listening to the podcast. They can’t give a shit about the playlists, especially if they’re not even listening to the damn podcast. So why are they subscribing? What is the motive? Is it a networking thing? There’s something in it for them. There’s some benefit to subscribing to stuff you don’t give a hoot about. There must be. I would like to drop these subscribers. Delete them. Is that possible? I don’t like it. It’s annoying. I put out a list of song titles and two minutes later I get an email: “Congratulations! So’n’so loves your blog! They love reading lists of songs they’re never going to listen to! Sound the feasting horn! Release the balloons! Slay the fatted calf!” No. Let’s delete the pain in the ass subscriber. Much better idea. Can I do that?
Thanks.

Hi there,
Users follow blogs for a variety of reasons, everything from the simple and innocent (they’re genuinely interested in the content which you are posting, but maybe don’t always have the opportunity to listen to your playlists each time. They still might find them interesting), up to the crass (misguided beliefs that by following a bunch of people and having those people follow them in return, it will help their SEO efforts).
The only way to really prevent this is to make your blog private, which you can read about right here:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/privacy-settings/
This will make your blog invite-only to even view it, and will prevent these unwanted followers. But it does quite restrict the number of people who will see your site. We cannot just remove the followers as they can always just refollow your site minutes after being removed.
Let me know if you have any other questions!

Yes, thank you for your response. I will leave things as they are and put up with puzzling over it. Thanks again.
