Why are posts missing after import from Typepad?

After posting this question in the forum I was told to direct it to support staff instead:

I just ran the import feature to move my blog from Typepad and everything seemed to go really well until I noticed that only 274 out of 637 posts were imported. All the posts appear to be in the export file from Typepad but only the most recent 274 were brought in during import. Is there a limit to what can be imported in?

Can you try running the import again? If you still run into problems let us know, and we’ll take a look.

I ran the original file again – and nothing changed.

I tried deleting the posts that did import from the source file and renaming it and then importing that one. More posts imported but the images did not transfer in to the media file the way they did with the first 274. It’s up to 590 posts now but 275-590 have no images.

.. just a note to add. The posts that are now missing images have empty image tags like this

“<p></p>”

Sorry that didn’t cut and paste properly my bad. I’ll try again – the long and short is there is nothing between the quotes on the href =

<p><a href=""></a></p>

Unfortunately, importing from external services is not an exact science. Elements outside of our control on the sending end (TypePad) can cause things to go bad.

If you would like, I can completely empty your blog, and you can try again. If you’d like to do that, I recommend generating a new export file from TypePad.

Please let me know if you’d like to empty your blog.

Sure, why not give it a try. I backed up the current copy this morning so go ahead and empty it out and I’ll try again.

Before I hit the magic button, I just want to be sure that http://melizzard.wordpress.com/ is the blog that you want emptied.

Oh good, yes I’d still like to give it a try.

My only question is – does your magic button just empty the shell out and melizzard.wordpress.com is still there or does it obliterate it altogether? And if so can I reclaim that URL?

That’s correct, it just empties the content and leave the blog itself in tact. I’m starting the process now and will let you know when it’s done.
