Why are recent notifications showing as 'unread' after they've been read?
-
In the notifications of comments, likes etc. the blue dot to show they are unread remains even after reading them. This started yesterday evening and is still a problem. I have tried clicking on them a few times.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

That’s strange.
1. If you are not running one of the browsers and versions listed at http://browsehappy.com/ please try upgrading or switching first.
2. If you are using an IE browser in compatibility mode please disable that mode. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1196-internet-explorer-compatibility-view-turn-off.html
3. If you are running one of the browsers and versions listed at http://browsehappy.com/
(a) Try clearing your browser’s cache http://www.google.com/support/accounts/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=32050
If applicable see here for instructions on how to clear the cache for Chrome and Safari on the iPad:
http://browsers.about.com/od/howtousemobilebrowser1/ss/safari-ipad-clear-cache.htm
(b) Make sure that you have both third-party cookies enabled and JavaScript enabled
http://www.google.com/adsense/support/bin/answer.py?answer=12654
(c) Disable all browser extensions or add-ons temporarily.
(d) Try enabling HTTPS: http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/
Add both *.wordpress.com and *.wp.com to your list of trusted sites under the Security tab. Make sure to uncheck the box for “Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone.” http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/#frequently-asked-questions
4. Try using another browser.
5. If you are not successful let us know:
(a) Exactly what kind of device you are using to connect to the internet and to WordPress.com.
(b) Exactly which browser (and version of it) you’re using by checking here if necessary http://www.whatbrowser.org/
(c) And what any error reports you receive state. -
I am using the latest browsers available MAC OSX 10.5.8.
I use https.
Clearing the browser cache makes no difference.
Cookies and Javascript are enabled.
I have no extensions or add-ons on the browsers.
I am using a desktop computer running MAC OSX 10.5.8.
I am connecting via an ethernet cable from a simple router.
I am using Safari 5.0.6
and Firefox 16.0.2
(the latest versions available to MAC OSX 10.5.8)
There have been no error reports.
Normally clicking on a notification makes the blue circle at the side disappear immediately, but it stays there.Since your mention of https I have noticed something.
If I access the notifications in the drop down list while I’m in the dashboard (https) they work normally, but only the most recent nine are available in that list, there is no scroll function.
If I click on “view archive”, as I normally do to see the whole list, it opens in http://en.wordpress.com/notifications/ and the blue circle stays however many times I click on a notification.
If I go to the “unread” option at the side all the ones with the blue circle show in there. I have tried clicking on them in that view and still nothing happens.
I have looked at the firewall log and there is nothing unusual in that. -
I am having the same problem but this just started three days ago. I am using Windows 7 and Firefox 25.
When I “visit my blog” to check for notifications, the notifications I have already read still appear as unread. If I respond directly to the person and hit reply, the notification will show that it has been read. If I don’t respond, it show the message as unread. This has been going on for several days. I did clear cache and history but still no changes.
I have no idea what version of WordPress I am using and couldn’t find it on my site.

I was about to post a “thank you” here, as the problem disappeared for me about half an hour ago. I thought someone had fixed it, maybe they have. I’ll keep my fingers crossed it stays that way!

The problem has been fixed with my blog as well. In fact it occurred right after I posted. Thanks for the feedback.
