Why are so many spam comments getting through all of a sudden?

  Why are so many spam comments getting through all of a sudden? The spam filter used to be really great, but in the last couple of days I’ve been getting a LOT (in the 20’s) of spam comments – bad translation, really, really old posts, etc., and I get an email for each of them. Did something change recently because it’s crazy how many have been getting through just since Saturday.

  Spam doesn’t necessarily always come at a consistent rate on any given site. You can mark those comments as ‘spam’ so our system becomes better at detecting and filtering this in the future.

  I understand that…it’s just that these are the sorts of emails that the spam filter seems to usually catch, and just all of a sudden (starting Sunday) they started getting through to my email.

  They’re also comments on SUPER old posts (3+ years) which should be another red spam flag…

  I’ve been marking them as spam as they come in, but I still thought it was odd that they suddenly started getting through like that.
