Why are some of the titles of my posts missing in the Reader?

  • Unknown's avatar

Some of the titles on my posts don’t appear in the Reader. They do appear on the post on my blog. I have around 30 past posts that have no title in the Reader when I look at my list of postings. I’ve noticed this happen in the past and have reworded titles so that they will appear. I want my posts to all have titles so people can click to go to the posts from the title. Is there a list of words somewhere that I must avoid? I have a list of the posts if you need that to look into it. The words aren’t explicit in any way that I know of.

    Hi there,

A few post titles would be helpful, yes. Keep in mind that there are a few things that could also help keep things off the reader:

    Too many tags or categories
    A post being marked private

And some post types do not show on the reader with titles, such as asides.

I posted Avocado Potato Salad and the title didn’t appear. I updated it to {Avocado} Potato Salad and the title appeared.
I posted Chicken Salad Tulips. The title wouldn’t appear until I updated it to {Chicken Salad} Tulips.
I posted Watermelon Salad. It still has no title that appears, I don’t know what to change it to.
I posted Yorkshire Pudding. It also has no title, I haven’t updated it. I don’t know what else to call the food!
Cauliflower Gratin {translation: with cheesy goodness} doesn’t appear as the title.
Those are just a few in the last month or so.

If you look for my blog name in the reader, you can scroll down on all my posts and see the dozens of posts without titles. The posts appear and all are food posts. The only problem I have is with random titles not appearing with the posts for some unknown reason.

    Thanks!

I did more searching and someone else had Watermelon Salad as a title and it appeared, but they’d done it all in caps: WATERMELON SALAD. I tried that and it appears now on my post. I would rather not do caps lock titles and scream them, however. Just thought it might be helpful if you knew the caps version works but not one with lower case letters.

    Heya,

Thanks for giving me this additional information! I’ve gotten our developers on top of this and they are looking in to it. As soon as we have any additional information for you, I will let you know!

    Hey there, Melady!

Our developers were able to figure out the problem.

There is a logic check which goes through and makes sure that the title of your post does not perfectly match the very first text of the post itself. If it does, then it does not display the title.

In most of your posts, the captions of your images have that exact same title, and so that logic check is failing!

If you could do something like change your caption to say “Photo: Yorkshire Pudding” instead of just “Yorkshire Pudding”, that should be enough!

Let me know if you have any questions!

Oh my goodness, what a simple solution! Thanks so much for the advice, I can now post without fear of a naked heading. heh

Very quick answer, too! You guys are amazing!
