Why are some records missing from my DNS info?

    Hi,
    Am I being thick?

I have been running a custom domain on my thebusinessofwebdesign.wordpress.com blog for a while. The custom domain is thebusinessofwebdesign.co.uk

    The all works fine.

I additionally must have set up an A record for the additional conference website available at:
    http://2014.thebusinessofwebdesign.co.uk/

And, as you can see, that is (and has been for ages) resolves & works fine.

    So, no problem so far…

However, today I needed to add another A record for a podcast which I am setting up
(podcast.thebusinessofwebdesign.co.uk to point to IP 176.58.116.246).

…and when I visited the DNS control panel for my domain in WordPress (as that is where the nameservers are set to), all I see in the “Custom DNS records” section bit is this:

    “A 2014 89.200.138.253”

…I was expecting to see an entry in there for the already existing 2014.thebusinessofwebdesign.co.uk ?

I need to add in the records for the previously mentioned podcast but I don’t want to do that until I understand why the 2014.* entry is missing.

    Thanks

    Joel

    Hi Joel!

We recently changed the domain interface to make it easier for users to add custom email addresses and subdomains. Currently, it looks like you have a subdomain of 2014.thebusinessofwebdesign.co.uk pointing to an A record like you mention. This is certainly one way of creating a subdomain. However, we recommend going the CNAME route as described here:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-subdomain/#adding-a-subdomain-if-your-domain-is-mapped-to-wordpress-com

It looks like you were able to set that up for podcast.thebusinessofwebdesign.co.uk. Can you confirm that this is working correctly on your side?

    Hi Jeremey,
Shortly after I posted the question, the DNS editor interface portion of my WP-ADMIN changed. I assumed you guys did something. With that change I was able to see the old record and then I was confident I was able to enter the new one.

    Thanks

    Joel
