Why are some sites I follow not appearing in my Reader?

Some people I follow are not appearing in my reader. Why is this?
Also, I’m not convinced that my home page – with ‘Reader’ ‘Stats’ ‘My Blogs’ etc is displaying correctly. It changed appearance about 6 weeks ago, and looks more basic. I have cleared cache and cookies, shut down and restarted my PC. I’m not sure if WordPress have changed it, or if something’s gone slightly wrong!

I don’t know why some blogs you follow are not appearing in your reader unless the bloggers have not published anything.
If you do not see the blogs in question listed here http://wordpress.com/#!/read/following/
then please enter the URLs here > http://wordpress.com/#!/read/edit/ -

That would be because Staff changed that entire section.
