Why are the available themes so SKINNY?
-
Hello,
I just created a free blog. I’m going through available free themes, and they are all very skinny, using 1/2 to 2/3 of the available width of a standard screen. Is there a way to fix that? I’ve gone through all the theme options for many of the themes, and I don’t see any way to change that.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

What do you consider the average screen resolution to be? Today, most visitors are using a screen resolution higher than 1024×768 pixels. Well my screen resolution is only 1024×768 pixels and with the exception of a few narrow themes like Flower Power, the other themes here fill my screen. So I believe your issue is one that’s at your end of things and not at this end.

I’m using 1024×768. I only found two free templates that use most of the avaliable width – Able and Word Press Classic. I like some of the other one a lot better, but they only use 1/2 to 2/3 of the available screen width.

1) There’s no such thing as a “standard” screen.
2) Fixed-width themes vary in pixel width.
3) There are also flexible-width themes, designed to stretch or shrink to adapt to each user’s screen resolution. -
Making Posts / Themes too wide makes them difficult to read – the only thing I can think of a wide theme for is maybe a photo site – I hate wide sites – just too hard to read

I’m with you on that. My screen resolution is 1024×768 pixels and if I’m faced with a horizontal scroll bar on any site I click out never to return again.
