Why are the colors inverting when uploading an image?

  I am trying to upload an image (black, white, and grey) as the header (I’m using Imbalance 2 as a Theme). The background of the image is supposed to be white and the letters are supposed to be black or grey. For some reason, I am able to upload the image header, but it comes out with a black background an only part of the lettering showing up. Help? Thanks!
