Why are the stats including my own visits?

  Do I have to switch something off to stop this from happening?

  If you are not logged in then your visits to your public blog are being recorded. If you are logged out then they aren’t recorded. http://en.support.wordpress.com/stats/ If you are refering to a private blog then your visits are recorded as the page views of all of the users are tracked.
