Why are there stats for a private blog if my own views are not counted?

Hi, the WordPress blog I have for personal use is set to private but I still receive data in the stats page and I don’t understand why if no one can see my private blog, why there are any stats at all. I also receive notifications when my stats “are booming” though it doesn’t make sense. I understand why if my own views are being counted, though find it confusing that under the section in support which discusses making your blog private, it says stats will include views with the exception of your own… so are those stats counting my own views or can others actually see my blog and why can they view it if it is set to private?
I just want to make sure it is infact private – I have not invited anyone to view. The conflicting info I keep running into makes it hard to be sure no one can see it but me. Can someone please assist?

If that is the case, then I guess wherever it states otherwise should be changed / updated, so that its clear, and there’s no confusion about it. Okay – makes sense. Thanks so much for your help!

Please read the support doc for stats at this link http://en.support.wordpress.com/stats/ and know that there is no setting you can change other than making the blog a public blog. http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/privacy-settings/

Thank you… I just wanted to know what the stats were for if the blog is private and kept running into two different answers about whether or not our own views show up in the stats. It was confusing because of the inconsistent info. No other reason.
