WHY ARE YOU SENDING ME TO THE READER INSTEAD OF THE POST I WANT TO ACCESS?

  • Unknown's avatar

So now when I click on a post that i got via email, I go to the Reader and NOT EVEN to the right post. To the top of ALL new posts in the reader. If I wanted to use the reader, I would be using it. I wanted to comment on THAT post, not on whatever post happens to have recently posted. Why are you doing this? It took me half a dozen tries to finally get to the actual post on which I wanted to comment. Surely your bloggers deserve to be accessible by a single click by followers? Surely you don’t believe you know better than I do what I want to read or do? You can’t think this is a good idea. I’m really upset. No one will be able to find ME either! Do you want me to give up blogging? I’m feeling really unwelcome here.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Clicking on ANY email from ANY blog I follow (and from which I get notification emails) is sending me to the top of the reader, not to the blog much less the correct post. This must be a error — it doesn’t make sense that anyone would design this to work this way on purpose.

Could it have something to do with my premium upgrade package (including my domain) renewing today? Could renewing (done automatically) have caused something weird to happen to my domain?

Okay. It looks like it got fixed. Phew. Thank you.

Belay that message. It seems to be partially fixed. Comments link correctly, but new posts go to the top of the reader. If I click on the title (it should go to that particular post in the blog), it goes to the reader — not the post or the blog. If I click on the blogger’s name, it goes to the blog, but not to the correct post. Nothing gets me directly to the comments, the like, or the original post. There is no direct link from the notification email to the post it contains.

I guess I’d better mention that about half the notifications when clicked anywhere at all go nowhere. I get a message that the post doesn’t exist. What a mess.

    Hi @teepee12,

I don’t think this has anything to do with your upgrades. Could you let me know the URL of a post you just received through email that when clicked, sent you to the top of the Reader instead of the actual post?

  • Unknown's avatar

It seems to have corrected itself. It went in and out last night, with some clicks taking me nowhere (no post found), others to the top of the reader (but not to the right blog or post), a few to the correct place. I have no idea what went wrong, but it seems okay (so far, so good) today.

That was bizarre, gotta tellya. It was as if the links were all pointing at incorrect objects. Object linking is a wonderful — magical — thing … but boy oh boy, when it goes wrong, it goes spectacularly wrong.

If this issue pops up again, please pass along a URL so we can take a closer look!

I will do that. I promise. I used to do this for a living and I know how wacky and hard to find these glitches can be!

    Problem not solved yet.

You need to send the bad links to Jeremy so he can track the problem. Mine seems to have gone away by itself, as weirdly as it showed up. I don’t know what caused it, nor did I do anything to fix it. It came. It went. With a little luck, yours will also resolve by itself. But if it doesn’t, you need to send him information or he won’t be able to figure out what is going on.

Indeed @megaworthit – I would need to have the URLs that are sending you to the top of the Reader instead of to the post. If you could pass those along, I’m happy to take a look!
