Why aren't my categories displaying on my front page?

  I have created 8 categories and would like them to display in a drop down menu on my blog’s front page. They are saved on my dashboard but I can’t seem to get them to display on my blog.

  Categories won’t display on the front page until they have at least one post tied to them.
