Why aren't my posts showing up in the Reader?

  • Unknown's avatar

I’ve noticed that my last 3 posts have not shown up in the reader under any of the tags I’ve used. I don’t understand why this is the case, as I didn’t used to have this problem. The website I’m trying to get help with is http://wherearemypillows.wordpress.com/, can anyone help me?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi –

I’ll be happy to look in to this for you. I see that there are several draft posts, so I wanted to make sure that you weren’t searching for one of those in Reader? They’ll need to be published before they are searchable.

A quick note about tags and Reader. The search results for tags are filtering through millions of related posts and what pops up is based on a combination of relevance and popularity. You may have better luck using more specific tagging instead of broad terms like “mental illness”.

Hi lizkarkoski thank you for your reply! It’s not one of the draft posts that I am searching for in the Reader, it’s the last 3 that I’ve published.

I get what you’re saying as far as the relevance/popularity part, but when you search by date, the latest posts should come up in chronological order of their published time, correct? I noticed my first ~5 posts come up under the tags I’ve used when searching under date, several minutes after hitting publish. However, with my last 3 posts they don’t seem to appear at all (whether searching under date a few minutes or a few hours after publishing).

  • Good Morning –

“Overwhelmed on the last day of the long weekend” is in Reader and I found it by putting quotes around the post title.

The more unique details in a post will improve it’s search visibility in Reader. Whether that’s via tags search or post titles.

As an example, “Well, crap. It really IS Borrelia. And Ehrlichia. And Anaplasma” has more unique details and is easier to find.

Take a look at those search results: https://cloudup.com/coIht1kO6-a

The last of the three posts, “Thought point: Am I lazy?” is also discoverable by post title.

My suggestion is to add unique details to your posts when applicable and use more specific tagging. Not every post is created equally, there are a number of factors that go in to the search results as we talked about.

Thank you for your reply. It’s good to know that my posts are in the Reader however now I’m not really sure if my tags, specifically, are working the way I thought they would? For example, my latest post published 2 days ago uses the tag “spoonie” and when I search by date, I can quickly scroll down and get to posts that are more than 2 days old, without coming across mine. I’ll keep in mind the suggestions you’ve made but it’s frustrating to not understand this issue fully.

I’ve also looked through https://en.support.wordpress.com/topics/#missing-posts . Is it possible that my blog may have been tagged as mature? I did originally use a swear word in the post title “Well, crap. It really IS Borrelia. And Ehrlichia. And Anaplasma” (which coincidentally is the first post I started noticing this issue with) but later toned it down and edited it to say “crap” instead.

  • I’m not seeing a mature flag.

Another thing to note is that if you use more than 15 posts + categories on a post, it will not appear in the reader.

Thanks for checking rootjosh. I am aware of the 15 tags/categories limit and have not exceeded that in my posts.

  • I am counting 18 on your “Got Lyme” post. But the rest look good.
