Why aren’t my posts showing up in the WordPress reader?

My blog site inthepinkcastle.com has been up for about a month. Google appears to be indexing my site. I’ve only been using ‘Categories’ on my posts and not ‘tags’ so far. Could this be the issue? Thanks!

  • Hi there,

It looks like you originally connected that site to Jetpack while it was still on the temporary staging URL you got from Bluehost. When you added your domain, the Reader feed never got updated, so the Reader has been checking the staging URL for your posts, and not finding anything.

I’ve manually updated the Reader feed for your site to use the current domain, and it’s now showing your post recent posts.

Thanks for looking into it and fixing this! I’m still not seeing my posts show up though when I search for my categories in the Reader. Will it take a few days for them to show up in searches?

Also, it occurred to me that I’ve used categories for some posts that don’t necessarily fit the content as well as they should. I’ll be correcting for this today in case that’s an issue. Thanks!

  • Oh, your posts would appear in tag searches only if you had a paid Jetpack plan. You can read more about Reader on Jetpack here:

Thanks for reminding me about the paid Jetpack plan and how it relates to posts in the Reader. I did know that but had forgotten.

My SITE, however, is still not showing up in the Reader either.

I used the W3C feed validator and my site has a valid feed. However, I’m receiving this message:

“This feed is valid, but interoperability with the widest range of feed readers could be improved by implementing the following recommendations.

line 25, column 0: Use of unknown namespace: com-wordpress:feed-additions:1 (11 occurrences) [help]”

Could this have to do with the manual update to the Reader feed for my site that kokkieh performed this morning? Can you help me with this? Thanks!

Ok, I see my site showing up in the Reader now. However…

Do you have any insight into why the W3C feed validator doesn’t recognize the namespace I pasted in my comment above? I think it’s the namespace added manually this morning to get my 11 posts to be recognizable to the Reader (since it says there are 11 occurrences of this namespace).

Maybe this is something WordPress needs to know about? I’m not a coder and don’t really understand this stuff, but W3C suggests letting them know if there’s a namespace they don’t currently support, but should.

    Thanks!

  • This is to be expected, it’s a proprietary namespace we’re adding, but it won’t break anything with any feed readers.

Thanks so much for letting me know! And thanks for putting my mind at ease. Coding lingo for a me as a new blogger is a big learning curve :-)
