Why aren't my widgets saving to my blog?
-
I am new to WordPress and to blogging. My widgets are not saving to my blog. I am dragging and dropping to the side bar sections, opening them and clicking the save button. I tried changing visibility settings, but that didn’t work either. I have tried over the course of several days to find the answer to my issue, but have not been able to resolve it on my own. My blog is myhistoryfix.com.
Thanks!

Hello Christina,
Thanks for getting in touch. I checked your blog and everything seems working correctly to me, so it’s difficult to guess what could be the problem.
What I can suggest is to possibly try the solutions listed on this page:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/More specifically, I’d suggest to try using a better browser, such as Firefox or Chrome, and see if the problem is still present with these browsers.
Let me know if this solves the issue.
Regards.

Thanks for taking a look. However, I am using Firefox (current version) already. I am curious as to what you saw. When I am in preview it is as it should be, with left and right sidebars containing widgets. If I click to the About page and then click back to home, it reverts to a default format: left sidebar no widgets, and my post loses my formatting. This also is what I see if I go directly to myhistoryfix.com, outside of WordPress. I just checked on my work computer (same browser) and it is the same.

Hello Christina,
Thanks for the clarification, you’re right, it’s now clear to me that shouldn’t be a browser issue. Given what you describe however, I might have another explanation to try out.
The theme you’re using is “Academica” and it has a quite complex system of sidebars. If you open Appearance > Widgets you see that there are nine sidebars: Sidebar Left, Sidebar Right, Sidebar Homepage Left, Sidebar Homepage Right, Sidebar Homepage Middle, Sidebar Archive, Sidebar Pages Left, Sidebar Pages Right, and Footer.
The homepage and the About page use two different sets of sidebars. That’s why when you move from About to home it seems reverting to a default format. It’s simply using a different set of sidebars.
If that’s the cause, you need to add CSS to target all the different sidebars. So it might be some additional styling work there as well.
This might be the reason why you’re seeing that behaviour. Have a look and let’s see if that’s the cause of it.
I hope it helps. :)
Regards.

Hmm…I am not explaining this properly. The problem is not that the home page and about page look different from each other. The problem is that the appearance of the home page changes after I go to the about page. Home will start out formatted to my specification, then when I click back after going to About, I lose the sidebar formatting, and my post font formatting, and the post background changes. I feel like it is something technical, because it seems like have done everything right in terms of setting it up.

Hi Christina,
Sorry for the delay getting back to you about this — let’s see if we can figure out what’s happening here.
When I look at your home page, this is what I see: http://cl.ly/image/1c0W2d2M230x
Is that how it’s supposed to look, or are you still having trouble getting your formatting changes to save? If you are having trouble with it, can you let me know exactly what steps you are taking to try to make those changes and then at what point the changes disappear? That will help me understand where the problem is popping up. Thanks!

Rachel, thanks for trying to help, but I had since changed templates and then decided to move to Squarespace. So this ticket can be closed. Thanks again!
