Why aren't side by side images displayed at equal heights as they are set?

This issue just arose a couple of days ago. It’s been a long, long time since I experienced this particular problem at WordPress. com. Side by side images set at same height display at different heights in page or post.
Example 1: The following two images are embedded in my leading post, http://songbook1.wordpress.com/2012/12/03/songbook-site-index/, each with the same height of 260 pixels.

However, the left image displays about 20% larger than the right.
Example 2:
Thinking that the issue might be localized to that post, I made a test page:
Oddly enough, the reverse occurs in this case. The same two images are used and set at identical heights. But this time, the right image displays at about 15% larger than the left.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Nothing odd on the test page, as no height is specified.
On the post I’m seeing same height.
I’m assuming you tried to change the numbers in the code after inserting the images. But a) the numbers you set aren’t the exact same aspect ratio as the originals, b) that’s not the way to do it anyway: it may or may not work, depending on the browser. (What browser and version are you using?) -
1. Test page: height of each image is set at 272 pixels. How could it be unspecified.
2. The post set of images was altered, after starting this thread. But again, the original setting weren’t being adhered to by WordPress in the display.
I used the same process for embedding these pairs that I’ve used successfully for the past two years or more. But WP recently made major changes in how media files are handled.
In this case I was able to get the pairs to display at the same height only by altering the default CSS class which WordPress assigned them, namely
(left image) alignnone size-full wp-image-101230
(right image) alignnone size-full wp-image-101231.
The altered CSS class values are “alignnone” for each.

Another vexing issue since the recent WP revision, is that when I upload an image (any image) from files, the name I’ve given the file is shown on the WP “insert media” page as the title. Just as one would expect. However, once that image is inserted in the post or page, said title becomes the “alternative title,” and the real “title” is made blank.
Therefore, I find that I am now required to manually add a title for every embedded image only after it is inserted in the post or page. Previously, each inserted image carried the file name as its title by default. Why the switcheroo from title to alternative title?
