Why aren't the "likes" showing up on my blogs?

  • Unknown's avatar

What do I need to do to get the likes to show up on my blogs? I found only one topic about this but its 3 yrs old and I tried everything suggested but nothing works. Plus nothing is located as stated in that thread. https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/cant-see-likes?replies=9

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    FYI,
These are my settings for “Show on screen”
Each of the following is checked: Author, In Response To, Submitted On, Comment, Likes
Number of items on page is 20

    Also
These are my current settings on the sharing page:
WordPress.com Likes are: On for all posts
WordPress.com Reblog Button: Show the Reblog button on posts
Comment Likes are: On for all comments

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I have searched and searched, both on wp and off and can’t find anything current that instructs how to show the likes for my blogs.

    :-((

People have liked my blogs but I only know there are likes if I check my stats. And then I don’t know who liked it. For that I have to check my email. It doesn’t matter if I’m signed in or signed out, I can’t see the likes on the actual blogs.

I found the rare references to others having this issue are so old, that the instructions are useless.

When I use the wp help feature, I can’t find anything. Maybe I’m not using the right phrasing. ????

I would really appreciate it if someone would please tell me how to get the likes to show up on the actual blogs.

I can see the “Likes” on your blog posts.

    Are you blocking any cookies?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Thank you for responding!

Not that I know of. Just the other day I cleared my cookies and cache and that didn’t help. I use Firefox and Safari and it’s the same on both of them. I see the comments, but not the likes.

I tried to check all my settings to see if there was an option where I could check “display likes,” but am not that familiar w/all the settings, so I may have missed them.

This is the main place in WP-Admin–>Settings–>Sharing, where you set “Likes” for all posts.

Hopefully someone from Staff will be able to help you further.

I checked the latest post on your blog at https://mindfulmomentsmeditation.wordpress.com/2015/11/19/what-if/ and I can see likes at the bottom of the post.

Here is a screenshot of what I see: https://cloudup.com/cqn3SFc_NlH

Is it possible you were checking the home page and not a single post? The settings page @dandelionsalad provided for you earlier has an option that you can check if you want likes to show up on your home page. The option is named, “Front Page, Archive Pages, and Search Results.” It’s the same option referenced at https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/cant-see-likes?replies=9

If you’re sure you’ve checked an individual post, and you still can’t see likes at the bottom of the post, the only other thing I can think of is that I’ve heard of some people having trouble seeing likes appear if they have some kind of local software, such as an ad blocker or browser add-on or extension similar to that.

It just keeps getting weirder. I just posted a response and it’s not here.
Thankfully I have lazarus so will copy & repost.

I tried dandelion’s first link and it wanted me to sign in again. When I try it wouldn’t accept my password. So I reset it and when I tried the link again, it did the same thing, even tho I signed in with my new password. I’m not sure what the heck is going on.

designsimply, I tried your link and I still don’t see my likes. I also tried the link to your screenshot but it was all blacked out.

I checked both my home page and single posts, both in FF and safari. (I am signed in in FF but not signed in on safari) I still can’t see the likes other than in my stats.

At one point, the links that dandelion provided took me to a page where it showed her comment, but when I look at my stats it doesn’t show that I have any comments to approve. And when I check the blog itself, her comments aren’t there. And it refuses to let me access that page again. I do still have it open in a tab, but it keeps asking me to sign in (which obviously I already am) and when I do, it keeps telling me my password is wrong. This is just so weird. I just don’t know what to do.

Since I’m having to repost, I will update. I just went back to the page that wanted me to sign in. I x’d out the sign in window and tried clicking on “approve” for her comment. Then I went to the blog and I can see that it has one comment. It still doesn’t show any likes. And I did check a couple of other blogs that I know I had likes (from my stats and emails) and still see nothing. :-/

I wonder if that could be due to the typo with the double slash in the middle “//” — can you try this link instead?

Also, if you are working on a blog other than mindfulmomentsmeditation.wordpress.com please let us know the address of the blog you are working on.

I’ve heard of this happening but it’s very rare and it was due to a browser extension before, I think it was an ad blocker. Do you have browser add-ons or extensions installed?

Thank you designsimply. I tried the link again & was able to see the page and here is what is checked:

WordPress.com Likes are – On for all posts

WordPress.com Reblog Button – Show the Reblog button on posts

Comment Likes are – On for all comments

Yes, I do have adblock plus enabled on FF & safari. So I just disabled it for wordpress on FF and cleared my cookies. After refreshing the page, there was no change.

I tested it on safari and it worked!

    Thank you so much!!!!!!

I will be gone for most of the day, but when I get home, I will do some more testing on FF. It may be that I have to close the tab & browser before it refreshes.

Again, thank you, thank you! :-)

PS, how do I unfollow a thread in the forum? I tried uchecking it but it says I have to post something first.

It does seem like a local issue of some kind. If there’s any chance you would be willing to send a bug report to AdBlock Plus asking them to fix this problem, that would be very cool. No worries if it’s too much of a pain.

PS, how do I unfollow a thread in the forum? I tried uchecking it but it says I have to post something first.

If you are referring to a thread such as this one at https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/why-arent-the-likes-showing-up-on-my-blogs?replies=12 then you can unsubscribe by clicking the “Unsubscribe from Topic” link in the right sidebar.

  • Unknown's avatar

Oops, I am so sorry I didn’t double-check the link. I copied where it was on my blog and then copied your blog’s name and didn’t see that there were 2 slashes instead of one slash.

Thanks designsimply for providing the correct link.

To “unfollow” a Forum thread, you can also click “Unsubscribe from this topic” at the bottom of any of the emails you receive.

In case you’ve deleted the emails, you can click on your name in the Forum and it will take you to your User Activity, then click on Subscriptions.

No problem! Thanks for being supportive and helping people in the forums @dandelionsalad. :)

Thanks for your kindness, too, designsimply. Even though we disagree about “new” vs “old”, I always appreciate the time you put in trying to help us bloggers out. Cheers!

I’ve never turned in a bug report to ABP, but just did. Will let you know if & when they respond.

Re: unsubscribing, I wanted to unsubscribe from the editor’s feedback blog. I thought all I would have to do is click the bottom of the email and do as dandelion said. But no such luck. There is no option in the emails alerts for that specific blog. Yet there is in the notifications for this thread.

Thank you both for the unsubscribe links. I found the unsubscribe & view your subscriptions links at the top of the page right under the thread title. :-) One issue solved! :-)

And thank you both for all of your help. I really appreciate it!!!

I guess for now we will have to wait and see what happens w/the ABP forum. I will post when when I have more info.

  • Unknown's avatar

You are welcome and hopefully all will be well on your blog soon.

I use Ad Blocker Plus and have had no problems with it and WP.

The only time I could not see the “likes” on a post was when I had the cookies blocked. So I unblocked and everything was fine again.

  • Unknown's avatar

Thanks, dandelion. Someone on the ABP forum said they could see them & put up a link to one of my blogs. I clicked it and voila! The likes were there. This whole thing has been so weird. :-/ I just checked all the rest and now they’re all there. I’m not sure what caused them to appear, but I am grateful they did.
