Why can I not add a paypalme widget to my website? I cannot afford to go WordPress Pro and donations

  You should be able to add a PayPal/donate button to your site. Just follow the steps outlined in this article:

  Hi there,

  Just to clarify, we don’t support PayPal.me. You can only use the simple Buy Now or Donate button from PayPal on WordPress.com.

  Thank you very much for this reply. I was unaware of the difference and I am therefore interested in putting up on my blog a donate button. How does that work and we’re do I find such a widget? Do you know?

  Please see the link @jaymendoza34 gave above. It contains all the steps you need to add the button to your site. You can add it in either a post or page, or in a text widget.
