Why can I not delete my account?

  • Unknown's avatar

I find the fact that I cannot delete my account inexcusable. What is in my account is my information and I want it deleted. I no longer have any interest in wordpress and do not foresee needing an account for any reason in the future. Meanwhile, my account will sit unused on your servers. Who does that serve?

If it must sit inactive, I will fill my account with junk information and claim as many blog names as I can that will also go unused.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hello there,
To delete a free hosted WordPress.COM blog you must be logged in under the exact same username account that registered a blog to delete the blog. To prevent accidental or inadvertent deletion of blogs, there are multiple warnings given that blog deletion is permanent and irreversible. Lastly, a verification link is sent in an email and must be clicked to delete a blog. If clicking that link does not work then copy and paste it into your upper browser window and click.

Deleted blog URLs are not recycled, regardless of who registered and deleted them and no exceptions are made.

Alternatively, to change blog visibility to private go to > Settings > Reading scroll to Blog Visibility and choose option 3 . See the guide here http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/privacy-settings/

IMPORTANT NOTE: Deleting blog content and deleting blogs does not remove any indexed content from the SERPs (search engine page results). Google and Bing only clear their caches of deleted indexed content that produces a 404 (page not found) every 3 – 6 months.

Here’s how to deactivate your account:
All you were required to provide to register an account here was an email address that can be replaced at any time.

Any personal information that you voluntarily posted can also be removed at any time.

Although username accounts are not deleted, so you cannot be impersonated and have your reputation affected by anyone registering the same username in the future, there are steps you can take that amount to removing all personal information and result in leaving only a throwaway email address behind. http://en.support.wordpress.com/deleting-accounts/

    1. You can go to My Account->Edit Profile and remove all data except the account name and an email address. Create a throwaway email address and change the account email to that throwaway address. This only leaves the username behind.

    2. To unsubscribe from email sent to you from WordPress.com, go here and click on “Block all subscription emails from WordPress.com”:
    https://wordpress.com/settings/notifications/

    3. To ensure the account is locked up tightly, visit this site, generate a password of 15-20 characters, and change the account password to it:

    4. To hide your Gravatar profile, login and on the bottom right hand corner of your Gravatar profile page you will find a “hide” button visible only to you that you can click.

I am not trying to remove a blog or deactivate my account. I desire to delete my account completely.

I want all information gone including my username and password. Or I should be given a damn good reason why this is not possible.

  • Unknown's avatar

I don’t know what’s preventing you from removing whatever personal information you voluntarily provided. I do know that only an email address was required. And I also know that what I posted above stands.

  • Unknown's avatar

I still wish to have my account deleted. All the information is gone and it serves no one for the account to exist henceforth.

I want a delete option for my account or a damn good reason why it is not possible to delete it. Most reasonable tech companies will allow for such a choice to be made.

For what evil and nefarious purpose does wordpress desire to hold onto my account?

I no longer wish to have any email account associated with this wordpress account. I want email, password, and any other information deleted from the system.

Please, allow me to press a button and delete my account.

  • Unknown's avatar

    There is no such button.

  • Unknown's avatar

Yes, I see there is no such button. But why is there not such a button?

Who does it serve for wordpress to hold onto my account?

Why must the account sit in an inactive state?

Is it unreasonable to ask that my account and any information within to be deleted?

Why are you posting over and over again into a thread when you have already been provided with the rationale and the link to the support doc that answers your question?

Although username accounts are not deleted, so you cannot be impersonated and have your reputation affected by anyone registering the same username in the future, there are steps you can take that amount to removing all personal information and result in leaving only a throwaway email address behind. http://en.support.wordpress.com/deleting-accounts/

P.S. Note that as you appear to be unable to read and act on what you read by deleting your own personal information I won’t be responding to this thread again.

  • Unknown's avatar

Because I am not satisfied with the answer.

There is not support doc that will answer my question.

Yet, there is nowhere else for me to go since the so-called “Get Help” button simply leads me here and not to someone who can make a decision and do something about it.

Is it unreasonable to ask that my account and any information within to be deleted?
