Why can I submit a topic (in earnest) only to find it's closed ???

  Hello I’ve just submitted a new question in earnest and it says it’s been closed for 43 years by anonymous. This is not serious, don’t make us waste our time.

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  The topic I was trying to post was “Contacting the owner of a blog that’s been claimed but not in use”. The body of the topic is not visible.

  For some reason your question was caught in the forum spam filter. As a volunteer I cannot say why that happened only there was a recent flood of spams about escorts or something in India or somewhere and it sometimes means that folks get caught in the mess. At any rate, here is your post:

  (Wish I’d copypasted the body of that post.) In short I’m the person behind snaporaz posterous dot com and I have to migrate it since Posterous is closing. Sadly snaporaz wordpress dot com is already in use, albeit without much happening there (one vague post). It doesn’t allow for comments or contacting and so I was wondering whether one could request WP officials to put the contact through anyway, just to be able to make the polite request and negotiate.

  Ah thank you kind moderator 1tess. I realise the topic isn’t obvious because of the privacy of owners, but I’m merely wondering whether WP mediates in those matters, if only to avoid hosting a score of ghost blogs.

  No, there is no expiration date on abandoned accounts. For one thing, someone may be using that name for other reasons than having a blog: perhaps to access another’s private blog? Or in order to have JetPack. WordPress won’t take that account away from the owner.

  You could try adding a number before or after the name you want (as I did ≥^!^≤ ) or altering the name in some similar way.

  Or you could try domain mapping. That is a paid upgrade, but if the domain name is available, the underlying wp.com name would be irrelevant:

  And thank you 1tess … zaropans is snaporaz in reverse ;-) Too bad I didn’t start out in WordPress from the start. Posterous looked promising but things went from bad to worse in rapid decline. Over & out.
