Why can we not block an email subscriber?

I have noticed on these forums many people wanting to remove email subscibers from their blogs and WordPress continues to keep repeating the same pablum – “public blog, you can block comments blah blah blah”. We should be able to have control over who our blogs are emailed out to, end of story. This is more because WordPress does not want to lose one chance of someone visiting their blog sites. Many people including myself want this option so give it to us please.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

It is not pablum. It would seem that you simply do not understand the reality that if the ability to remove or followers existed your time would be squandered on removing unwanted followers because anyone can get a new email address and or a new IP in seconds flat and then they can subscribe again to any public blog they were removed from again.

We cannot block or delete subscribers from public blogs. Anyone and everyone can access public blogs and that’s indeed what the public designation means. However, please read this about public blogs that become private blogs > Blog Privacy and Subscribers > http://wpcommaven.wordpress.com/2011/09/05/blog-privacy-and-subscribers/

To change blog visibility to Private go to Dashboard > Settings > Reading scroll to Site Visibility and choose option 3
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/privacy-settings/

You don’t need an upgrade of any kind at all to invite multiple people to contribute to a private blog. See:
    adding users http://en.support.wordpress.com/adding-users/
    user roles http://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/
Note that you have complete control over everything that’s posted to your blog via comment moderation
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/discussion-settings/#comment-moderation

For trolls, you can “blacklist” them at Settings > Discussion toward the bottom of that page. Enter their email address, their username, and if they included it, their website URL. That will automatically send them to moderation so that their comments do not appear on the blog. Do note though that if they are determined, they can use a different email address or username to get around that.

Also, do not put their IP address in the blacklist. IP addresses are no longer unique, and you might end up blocking legitimate visitors. In fact for over a decade only about 30% of us have IPs that trace back to any individual computer. Also, all they would have to do is go to a wi-fi hot spot, or connect via a different ISP and they could get around that.

I have lots of time to “squander” monitoring my followers.

I have three specific people that I would prefer my posts to not be sent to directly by email for various reasons. If they search my blog out that is fine, but whatever you say we should have the option to remove certain followers from receiving our blogs via email without having to make our blog private. By the looks of your forums and the amount of time this has been asked for, many people agree with me.
Sorry your only legitimate reason above “saving me time” does not wash. There is a big difference between a blog being public and my posts being sent to someone’s email directly so please stop being obtuse.

By the way if this option were available to me if I subscribe to your upgrade. I would gladly pay to be able to do this.

There is no upgrade that provides this option.
There are no plans afoot to provide this ability to bloggers hosted by WordPress.COM.
And IMNHO there is no way that Staff are going to do this for you or anyone else with a public blog.
I believe you have reached a dead end.
