Why can't I access 'unread' notifications?

  I haven’t been using wordpress for months after creating an account. Only recently have I deleted my old blog on wordpress which I wasn’t active on and then changed my primary e-mail account which I now log on with.

  I’m trying to read my ‘unread’ notifications which is signaled with a blue dot in the icon, but I can’t click and open it to see my notifications!

  Are they any preference settings I need to configure? Anything I should try adjusting?
