Why can't I add headings the verse blocks?

Am I understanding this correctly? I have to add a separate block for a heading and a separate block for text each time I want to add brevity? I’m trying to work on a new page but the new editor isn’t very intuitive.
Also I don’t understand the purpose of the paragraph block. What’s the point? It creates a new block each time you make a new line. Am I supposed to use the verse blocks for paragraphs instead? I am confused.
I am excited that this is supposed to end formatting issues but I don’t really understand how it works.
