why cant i add some cool stuff

Hey ..
I have been trying to customize and put some features to my blog that i have seen in some blogs of my friends , like a counter or places from where ppl have visited or a bog roll , or music .. i am just not sure how to do it , i see that wordpress is not as open to adding stuff like blogger which sucks.. but if it does then please can someone let me know where i can find those options..

well its tough to be specific cause i really dont know what i want to add , but i would like to know how so that i can do it when i want and how i want , from my experience so far its usually an HTML code that they ask to paste “somewhere” if you can guide me by telling me how i can do it then i can implement them when i want .. I just dont find wordpress as convenient as blogger though i like wordpress style as compared to blogger .

@vinaiah: Lots of things can be added in your sidebar via Design>Widgets. But you’ve chosen Hemingway, a very unusual theme that won’t accept the variety of widgets available. Try almost any other theme.
(Text or html codes, in particular, are pasted in Text widgets. But keep in mind that only plain html is allowed: javascript, flash, iframes and forms are stripped out, for security reasons.)

Also note that WP has some very convenient “shortcodes” (for the posts). For instance, for a YouTube video you don’t embed its code, you just write:
[youtube=URL_OF_VIDEO_HERE]
For an mp3 to play, you write:
[audio URL_OF_MP3_HERE]You should search the FAQs to get more acquainted with the potential of WP blogs.
