Why can’t I automatically link any more?
-
I’ve been out of touch for 3 weeks and now I can’t link names in my posts to Wiki or IMDB references as I have been able to do before. I’m sure it’s something I’ve done wrong, but can’t figure it out. Can anyone help? Many thanks . . . brookela

I read that already; didn’t understand it then, don’t understand it now. Does this mean that I have to “write” the links (i.e., use html or whatever it’s called) to do what I used to do with a little line above my Write box? There were two ways to write a post – one in html and one just regular typing; there was a button I could press to add a link, one to break a link, one to underline, etc. Am I no longer able to use those buttons . . . well, obviously I can’t because they aren’t there. I guess I just want to be sure that I’m s.o.l. before I start crying. Thanks for your help . . . brookela

Icon #10 is the one you’re looking for.

In the visual text editor, highlight the text you want to use for a link, then click on the icon in the toolbar that looks like two chain links linked together. That will bring up a dialog box where you can enter or paste in the URL you want to link to.

Thanks everyone. Yes, I have a wordpress.com blog (theroadoflife.wordpress.com). What I’m trying to explain is that I do not have the option of using the Visual or Code tabs – they aren’t there. I know what and where icon 10 is, that it’s the link icon, but there are NO ICONS there. I’m sorry if I sound stupid, but when they aren’t there, I can’t use them. I just want to know what I’ve done wrong (or if there’s been a change to the system) so that the icons aren’t there? If I’m not making myself understood, let me know and I’ll try again. Thanks once more . . . brookela

Firefox 2.0.0.11 which has been updated recently. Always worked before; do you think that’s the problem? Everything in my posts shows only html. Argh!

Hold the phone. I figured it out. I put an add-on to Firefox called NoScript – and now I can’t get rid of it; what it does is stop scripts from running unless I give permission . . . intended for websites that run scripts without telling you. I “allowed scripts” and now I can see the Visual and Code tabs and the underline and bold and LINK buttons.
Thank you so much; I’d probably not have thought about this stupid add-on for months. As it is, I have to re-post a Postcard from Daddy because I hit Delete instead of Edit from an excess of frustration. Double argh! And double thanks to all. I hope you all have a Cool Yule!!! brookela
