why can't i disable two-step authentication

    I switched phones and lost my Authenticator setup. I can still log in by getting an SMS code and I have printed back up codes. However, I want to disable two step verification. When I click the button it asks me for my current code. I tried the SMS code I used to log in and I got “invalid code”. I tried logging in with a printed back up code and used that as the current code to disable, and got the same “invalid code” issue. I seem to be totally stuck. Help please.
