Why can't I edit drafts or add media?

    Dear Friends at WordPress, I am really having trouble posting on WP. The last few times I have written a post I have been constantly plagued with two problems. <b>First Problem:</b> One is I type up the post, save the draft, and then when I go back to work on the draft, the text does not appear in the window on my dashboard. If I go to the preview window, the text is there, but when I hit edit, taking me back to the dashboard, the text is gone. <b>Second Problem:</b> When I try to add pictures to my posts by clicking on the add media button, nothing happens. (Except that a has tag appears in the address bar at the end of the “edit” address.

    These two problems have really hamstrung me. It takes me three times longer to get a post up, and I have to tag team between my iPad and my computer. Help!

    Hi there,

    In regards to your first issue, if you are viewing the preview, that opens up a new tab. If you then click edit, you are opening a new edit window on top of another, already opened, edit window. These two edit windows can cause conflicts, so you may want to close the preview rather than clicking the edit button. There will be an already-active edit window waiting for you underneath!

    In regards to the Add Media button, that is quite strange! Which blog are you working in? I’d like to take a look at it and see if I can replicate the issue.

    In regards to your response about editing drafts, I do see what you mean, but that is not what is going on. I am working on our Transform Siberia blog. I think if you go have a look you will see what is going on. So, let’s take as example my story called “Hotcake Hustle: Maslenitsa”. This is a story I have already posted. When I go to “all posts”, and click on edit, the visual box appears empty. The text tab does not function. Right now the only way I have been able to edit posts is via my iPad, which for what ever reason is not experiencing these issues.

    Clicking on the add media button causes a hash tag to appear at the end of the address in the address box.

    When I write a new post as soon as I save it, it disappears from the window in drafts, and I am no longer able to work on it, except on the iPad. It is odd that if I preview it, I can see the text in the preview, but never in the edit window.

    I actually have been having this problem for quite some time, but I thought it was just glitches with WordPress that would work themselves out. They haven’t.

    Heya,

    Thanks for getting back to me and clarifying what is going on. I was not able to see any errors on my end when I went to your blog and clicked around, so I’m going to have to ask you to do a bit more investigation on your end.

    Would you please go back to your site and open up what is called the Console Debugger? You can get there by holding down Shift + Command and then hitting the J key. This is built in to Firefox and Chrome browsers and will display information on errors which are being generated on pages. So with this debugger open, try loading the page and clicking around, especially on buttons/tabs which are not working but should be!

    Any results which you get, please send back to me so I can see what might be going wrong!

    Shoot! I tried replying by email, instead of answering here on the forum. Sorry about that! I am still having the same issues, which is severely hamstringing my efforts to post.

    When I hit the add media button, here is what the address bar looks like after the hash tag appears. You will recall that when I hit the add media button, NOTHING HAPPENS. (Except that hashtag that appears.)

    If I hit the add tags button, nothing at all happens, not even a hashtag on the address.

    I am also getting TONS of warnings, many of them multiples when I move from window to window on the dashboard, but nothing if I try to add tags or add media. Strange. Here are some of the warnings:

    I did see hedgebuilders come up which is a Internet filter and I guess a proxy server. I use it, could that be somehow connected?
    So, now what?

    Hi Alex,

    Could you please try connecting without the proxy server and see if the same issues occur? This may be an issue with the javascript files not being able to load through the proxy.

    Well, I added the address of wordpress to the list of sights that the proxy server should green light but it hasn’t seemed to change anything. Everything works fine until I save the draft, at which point the text disappears, and I can’t add media or tags. Shutting down the proxy server is going to take some doing. Is there anything else to do aside from that?

    The issue is that the proxy might not be letting the javascripts through at all, which are required in order for the site to run properly. Some proxies have a setting to explicitly deny or permit javascripts, you can look for that setting within your proxy console.

    Other than that, I don’t have any other suggestion other than trying another computer on another network (also without using a proxy).
