Why can't I edit the pre-made excerpts?

  I’m trying to edit my ‘about’ and ‘contact’ section excerpts that appear by default – they say ‘This is just a short excerpt for the ___ page.’ There’s an option to edit these on the blog section, but the buttons to edit for the other pages don’t show up. I would like to edit them so I can write something personal, not the wordpress default statement. I’ve googled this and nothing has helped so far, what should I do?

  Hi Tessa,

  While logged in, go to your About or Contact page and click on the edit link on the bottom right of the screen to edit those pages. Then on the left menu, click on “Excerpt” and you’ll be able to edit those contents as you wish.

  Hi,
  There is no excerpt option for those sections – only change status, page settings, featured image, and advanced settings.
  Whereas the blog section has those, plus a few more (including excerpt). Yet all three sections have a pre-made excerpt so I don’t understand why that button would be hidden on 2/3 of the sections

  Pages usually don’t have excerpts, only posts. I’ve made a test here on my site, but it displayed an excerpt from my page’s contents. It’s weird. Did you have a different theme before this one?

  Do you mind looking at my blog and seeing what I’m talking about? I just made my first WordPress this week, it’s the default Etin theme or something. I haven’t made many changes to the general layout, so I’m not sure what I’m missing. I wish I could send a picture!

  I’ve looked it and it doesn’t seem you are doing anything wrong. Just try to add another test page and set it as one of the features to see what happens.

  @tessaraemercer – The excerpts for those pages which display on Gateway’s special Front Page template can be found when you edit the Page in the WP “Classic” Admin>Pages>Edit Page

  If you don’t see “Excerpt” in the bottom part of the Page Editor after opening the Page for editing, you may need to enable it from the Screen Options button at the top right of your browser screen.
