Why can't I get rid of the extra line between my menu bar and main page?
-
Hi, I’m writing because I’m trying to format the homepage of my blog, which uses the Forever Theme. I want just a static page (whihc only has one photo on it) as my homepage. I’ve gotten that up just fine, but it looks like there’s an extra line (like an extra “enter”) between the menu bar and the photo. I’m assuming this is where the page title would go, if I had a page title. But I don’t b/c I just wanted one static photo as the main home page. Here is my blog: http://www.brookebassphotography.com
For an example of a blog that uses the same theme and is not having my problem, see here: http://jenandchris2012.wordpress.com/
Thanks in advance!

Hi Brooke,
Thanks for contacting us.
In investigating your issue, I discovered that on your blog, the theme is setup to display a static page, but it is also possible to have the theme display the most recent posts and set those desired posts (or in your case, a single post) as sticky to always display it.
I suspect that if you change this setting, your site will look right. If not, I also worked out a way to accomplish this same effect through modifying the CSS options with your Custom Design upgrade.
Why don’t you give it a try to display the latest post and see if that removes the space for you. If not, please don’t hesitate to contact me and we can work this out together to your satisfaction.
Have a great day!

Hi,
Thanks for the quick response. I think the problem (from what I can tell) with doing it the “sticky”/featured route is that the text from the post I want to stick on the front shows up w/ the photo. I only one one photo featured prominently on the main page–no text. (And ideally, I’d like to be able to rotate out photos as I build my portfolio on this website.) Do you think it would be best for me to try the CSS route? I know nothing about CSS so hopefully it’s easy!

Hi Brooke,
Thanks for your patience with this. The following bit of CSS can be entered into your Custom Design > CSS area in your dashboard and should resolve your spacing issue.
article.post-18 { margin-top: -1.615em; }Simply add the CSS and then hit save:

Please note that this will only work with your currently-chosen static home page, but an be modified if you change it.
Each of your posts has its own built-in identification number. If you edit your current homepage, you should notice the following link in the address bar of your browser:
https://brookebassphotography.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=18&action=editThat
post=18tells us that this page’s identification number is 18, corresponding to the CSS we added.Alternatively, if you were to change your front static page to the About page, we notice that its identification number is 1:
https://brookebassphotography.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=1&action=editIn this case, we would want to update the custom CSS accordingly:
article.post-1 { margin-top: -1.615em; }Please give this a try and let me know if it doesn’t meet your needs. I tested this solution with another blog site and it seemed to do what I understood you were attempting.
Thanks again, and have a great day!

Thank you SO much. That worked perfectly! Never would have figured that out on my own so I really appreciate the support!
