Why can't I get the menu to show up & remove the "reply" space off every page?
-
Hello. I have followed all the steps you provide for setting up my site as a website versus a blog. I managed to create a “static” home page, but I cannot get rid of the “leave a reply” on any of the pages. Help, please. Also, I have gone through all of the steps to have the “menu” displayed and it is not. Help again, please! Thank you.

You can disable comments following this guide: http://en.support.wordpress.com/enable-disable-comments/
As for the menu, you have built it, but you need to set it as your primary menu. Check in the top-left corner of Appearance -> Menus in your blog’s Dashboard.

Dear Happiness Engineer- Thank you for your response to my two issues. However, I have tried several times, specifically following the directions, to corrdct the issues and nothing happens. Is there a “bug” or something preventing the steps from happening? Is it because I am working with a specific theme that I can not change things? Should I scrap everything and start over? This is my 2nd attempt, after trying to create a personal theme, and things are not working. Is WordPress.com having issues? Again, any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

At Appearance -> Menus, you still have not yet set your primary menu.

Please believe me when I say I appreciate your help, but this is what I see when I go to appearance-> Menus
https://deanabagley.wordpress.com/wp-admin/nav-menus.phpI don’t believe WordPress is functioning properly.
Any other advice?

You’re nearly there. In the Theme Locations box, where it says “Your theme supports 1 menu. Select which menu you would like to use.” – you need to select your menu (titled “Menu”) from the drop-down list, and then click the blue “Save” button.

Boy, there is just such a disconnect for me. I have saved the screenshot to media for you to see it: http://deanabagley.files.wordpress.com/2012/07/my-dashboard.jpg
I am not seeing the things you guys are trying to direct me to.
All of your assistance is truly and greatly appreciated. I’m working on not being frustrated.

Hm, that is very odd.
Click the Screen Options tab near the top-right and make sure that “Theme Locations” is checked.

The heavens opened and the angels sang!
Much thanks to one and all for your assistance on the menu. I “FINALLY” got it! Blessings to All.Now I just need to remove the “leave a reply” area and we’ll be all set. Again, any help is greatly appreciated!

Wow! A new issue. My “Home” page is picking up the info from my “Readings” page. I don’t believe I have done anything to connect them. What’s up?
-
At Settings -> Reading in your blog’s Dashboard, you have chosen to use a static (non-blog) front page, but have not selected one, so Readings is just being filled in for you automatically.
You’ll need to select something for both values.

I’m glad to hear you’re all set!
