Why can't I have a URL that isn't in use?
-
WordPress won’t let me use the URL I want. It says, ‘Sorry, that site has already been used!’ But when I go to that address, I get an empty page that says, ‘[blog url] is no longer available. The authors have deleted this site.’ If the URL isn’t in use and the previous owner has deleted it, why can’t I have it?

the new policy is for some deleted sites to become available again two years after they were deleted – try registering the domain and see what happens

I tried registering it, that’s when it said, “Sorry, that site has already been used.” I guess I should just check it once a month to see if the two years is up yet?

that’s as good a plan as any unless you want to buy a custom domain name and map it to a blog here –
