Why can't I paste a code into a sidebar widget?
-
I am trying to paste a ‘follower’ code from Facebook in to a text box widget so it will show on my sidebar but every time I paste it and press save, the text disappears. I do not want the Facebook ‘like’ button, just the follow button. I don’t usually have a problem putting anything in the sidebar, am I doing something wrong?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

WP.com doesn’t allow Iframes or JavaScript which is why they are stripped.

Facebook Badges
You can also add a Facebook profile badge or a Facebook page badge to your blog if you’d like. We have a full guide for doing so. http://en.support.wordpress.com/facebook-badge/ -

I’m aware that it will not work. I have answered support questions here for over 7 years. The options I provided above are used by many WordPress.com bloggers.

Thank you but I just want a follow button, nothing else. No list of followers, no page name, no badge….

You can create your own follow button easily. A button, badge or icon are all images that you can link to. You can capture an image and upload it, link to it and display it in a text widget.
For creating links in a text widget see:

NOTE http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/text-widget/#adding-an-imageYou can upload image files by clicking the Add Media button right above the editing area of a page or a post. http://en.support.wordpress.com/add-media/
You can also upload new files to your Media Library using Media → Add New. http://support.wordpress.com/media/media-add-new
