Why can’t I press the LIKE button on WordPress domain name blogs?
-
I can’t press the like button on Domain name blogs through email notifications
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)
-
Just to be exact, you’re trying to Like a WordPressdotcom post via it’s email notification to you? Are you logged in to your WordPressdotcom account when you do that?
A Like is connected to your Gravatar account so you need to be logged in to your WordPressdotcom account when you do it. More about Likes here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/likes/
If that didn’t answer your question, please post back in this forum thread.

Sorry, I worded my query incorrectly and couldn’t find out how to fix or delete the question and re-word it.
I can LIKE a name.com fellow blogger’s new post via the email notification only, whereas before I got my new iMac (with software Mojave 10.14.5) I could press the LIKE button on the actual name.com owner’s website(s).
Name.wordpress.com is fine and I can press the LIKE button and COMMENT via the actual website.
Following about 60+ blogs means I finally managed to work out which blogs I couldn’t press the LIKE button on their homepage. e.g. stevemccurry.com, lindaleinen.com, don urban.com and so on. It keeps flashing a blank window on the upper left side of the screen, instead of registering my gravatar against the LIKE.
As an aside I’ve had an Apple Technician come to my home to check out other Apple software problems with my new iMac and he could find nothing wrong.
My old 2012 Mac Pro crashed when I tried to update to the new Mojave software (due to lack of memory) and I ended up buying a new iMac. I have run my old laptop and new iMac desktop side by side and double-checked all the settings and preferences and can’t see why the new software won’t keep me logged into WordPress (which is my other problem) and won’t allow me to LIKE (or, in some cases COMMENT) on some of my favourite blogs I follow.
I have checked all my WordPress settings, but they remain the same as on the old laptop computer of course. Not sure if I have explained this clearly as I am rather technology-challenged, but the gist of the problem is that I cannot run WordPress the way I used to.
(I don’t use the Reader as scrolling makes me dizzy. I use emailed notifications to receive new blog posts).

Hi @vickialford, is there any chance you have third party cookies disabled? That would explain why .wordpress.com sites work but domain.com sites don’t — they might not recognize that you’re logged in.
Try checking here:
I want to say there’s a similar (yet different) setting in some browsers, so if that says third party cookies are enabled but it still does not work, let us know what browser and browser version you’re using so we can do testing here. Please also try another browser to see if that changes anything.
-
I have ‘block all cookies’ blank, (or unticked).
I have also tried swopping to Google Chrome with no luck, so I’ve swapped it back to Safari (which I prefer).
I am using Safari version 12.1.1 (which is what was on the new iMac when I purchased it on the 5th May).
Since the old 2012 Mac Pro laptop worked perfectly in WordPress (with the old Apple software ‘El Capitan’ prior to Easter), I suspect it’s something to do with the latest Apple software Mojave (version 10.14.5).
With having to log in to WordPress every time I log on to my computer, having to type my email & name every time I want to make a comment on someone else’s WordPress blog, (as well as the LIKE button problem with Domain.com websites), it’s spoiling my blogging life.

Can you check for a “Prevent cross-site tracking” option and make sure it’s disabled? That would indeed force you to log into to a domain.com site even when you are logged into wordpress.com.
-
When you say disabled, I assume you mean it should be ticked. If so, then it is already ticked and always has been.
-
No, disabled means that option should not be ticked.
If it’s ticked, it means it’s enabled, and enabling that option blocks us from detecting that you’re logged into you account when you visit another site on WordPress.com. If we can’t detect you’re logged in, then Likes, and other features that rely on being logged in, like commenting, following and notifications, won’t work either.
Safari does not offer the option to make exceptions to this for specific sites, so if you want those features to work correctly if you use Safari, the only option is to turn cross-site tracking off.
-
I’ll try unticking the blue box next to “Prevent cross-site tracking” in Privacy (preferences) then.
My brain interprets the word ‘disable’ as a negative i.e. a negative next to the word ‘prevent’ (another negative) being a double-negative if you see what I mean.
You say ‘disable’ and my lack of computer terminology means I say ‘untick the blue box”.
Please excuse my ignorance of computer terms and technology. Thanks for your suggestions.
After I’ve unticked the blue box, I’ll see if that solves the issue with the next Domain.com email notification in my gmail inbox. If it works, I’ll pass it on to a couple of my blog(s) followers who have the same problem. They are also over 65 like me and probably, like me, come from an era before computers.
Anyway, I’ll let you know if it solves my problem (or not).
I daresay I use my gmail more than most people. Most WordPress members probably use the Reader. I had to turn the Safari Reader off on the new iMac too.

Amazing!
Turning cross-tracking off worked. Thanks for your help.
Now on to my other computer problems.
