Why can’t I register a blog name?

  I’m trying to register a new blog, but when I try to it says that someone already has one with that name. Fair enough, but when I search for that URL a message from WordPress is displayed saying ‘sorry, you’re looking for something that doesn’t exist’.

  If it doesn’t exist, why can’t I have it?
