Why can't I reorder a gallery of images?

When I am editing a gallery within one of my posts I am not able to “Drag and drop to reorder images.” as instructed at the top of the pop-up editing window. I try to select, click, hold, and drag an image- but nothing happens. None of the images move at all. Am I doing something wrong? Is there another way to reorder the images in a gallery? Thank you for your help!

What you’re describing to reorder the images should work.
What browser and device are you using to try and do this?The other way you can reorder, although it’s not as intuitive, is to use the Text version of the editor. This should show you something like this where you gallery would be
[gallery ids="630,625,593,560,556,550"]You can manually change the comma separated list to the order you want. It’s not easy to know what id belongs to each image though.
You can check out this page en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/ as it has some browser trouble shooting suggestions. One I would try first is the force refresh it talks about when you are on the re-order gallery page.

Hm, well, I’m using Chrome on a Toshiba PC. I’ll check out that page on browser trouble shooting though, maybe I’ll find an answer there. Thank you!

Are you editing using the Classic Post Editor (in your site’s Dashboard) or the new Post Editor in the WordPress.com New Dash (blue)?

The classic post editor. I tried switching back to the new one, but for the life of me, I just can’t find a method for doing that either, haha.

Just popping in to ask if you’ve been able to resolve the drag and drop gallery problem.
If not, please do check using another browser (Firefox is a preferred browser here) and/or check that perhaps a browser extension is interfering by first disabling everything and then adding them back one-by-one.
